Cryopreservation: Freezing Life to Preserve It

Cryopreservation is the process of cooling and storing cells, tissues, or even whole organs at very low temperatures—typically −80 °C or in liquid nitrogen at −196 °C—to halt all biological activity and preserve them for long-term use.

At these temperatures, cellular metabolism, enzymatic activity, and degradation are effectively suspended, allowing cells to be stored for months or even years without significant loss of viability.
